My brother Patrick recently deployed to Southern Afghanistan. Our family does not have a "heritage" of military, so this whole life is new to all of us. We are fiercely proud and scared out of our minds all at the same time.
We were really lucky to get a visit from Patrick before he deployed. My kids LOVE him, and he has been named "CRAZY Uncle Patrick". He is great fun to be around and always makes everyone HAPPY.

Check out what he is sitting in. The Army charters some sort of sweet aircraft for the troops. These chairs lay down completely flat so they can sleep during the very long flight! Super cool!
We have gotten one message from Patrick since he has landed..."Made it to Kyrgyzstan safe".
"Safe" the sweetest word to our family right now.
