The Hiding Place

I read two books while in Utah. (Can you believe it? What a luxury to have time to read two books!) The first being The Hiding Place. It is the story of a Dutch Christian woman during Nazi occupation. I gotta say this one really made me think. In fact, I finished it Thursday night and stayed up all night thinking. I just could not rest after this book.

Even in the WORST of situations, a very Loving Heavenly Father is watching over us. He is still watching over us and blessing us even when it seems all is lost. One part that really hit me was when Corrie (the main character) was in a concentration camp and assigned to a bunker totally flea infested. Her sister got on her knees immediately and was thanking God for the fleas. I was right with Corrie when she protested that this particular miserable addition to the mix was a bit much to be grateful for. They had been through so much already. FLEAS...THANKFUL???

Later it is revealed that the women end up having some blessings/liberties just because of the fleas. You see, the guards won't consider entering their bunker. Those little fleas were their tickect to a tiny slice of "freedoms". Thanking God for fleas was completely appropriate. Even in the worst of situations He does answer our prayers. Those women were indeed correct to be grateful God placed them in the flea infestation.

I just kept thinking "How often in my own life have I not been thankful for the fleas?"

Have you read the vampire books (Twilight series) by Stephenie Meyer? My girls all read them and got me hooked. I'm on the last one now, book 4, and about half way through. They are pretty interesting!
