{Arrow of Light - Jonah}

To say I am a bit behind on blogging would be an understatement.  I am trying to back into a regular routine of blogging and capturing our little family's celebrations!
Jonah Earned his Arrow of Light.  He was pleased as punch to finally have his ceremony!

The nice young men who came from the council to help award Jonah his arrow and bridge him over.  Jacob was the only boy scout in attendance...wish we thought ahead to have him in uniform too!

{The Pinewood Derby - the FINAL chapter}

Due to sick kiddos, only Richard got to go to Jonah's final appearance in the Pinewood Derby.
I am happy to report he did it again!  He WON!  He won 3 years in a row.
Way to go Jonah!  Way to build a speedy car.

Jonah and Issac, with their cars.
Jonah lost his "steam" in building his car this year.  His original plan was to paint it like the Netherlands soccer ball...well he got as far as orange paint and declared, I am done!

Jonah setting his car for one of the races...

He was thrilled to win, again.  Especially since he did ALL the work himself this year.
(except for the big saw.  Richard did that for him)

Good Job Jonah!  You have a triple crown title!

{Jonah Cub Scouts}

Jonah earned 5 pins toward his Weblos badge at the pack meeting this week. Jonah loves scouts! Really! He also loves the fact that he gets to go to church at night now with Hannah and Jacob. He is getting so big, growing right before our eyes.

Every time Jonah chooses, the "Watermelon" cheer. Surprise surprise!

Here Jonah is pinning the "mom's pin" on my sweater.

Jonah loves everything about Cub Scouts, and we really love Jonah!

{Oops I did it again...}

Oops I did it again...! (Come on sing along with me...)
Well, that is Jonah did it again.
Yes, he WON the Pinewood Derby, again.  (insert cheesy Forrest Gump "again"...)

Here is Jonah setting up his car for a run...
This is the final race, look at how close the winning race was...
In case you don't know Jonah well, his car is the Green Bay Packers car.

Jonah with his winning car and 1st place certificate.

There was a twist to this year's pinewood derby.  The boy scouts were invited to participate.  Jacob tried his hardest to design a car that would be the SLOWEST.  He was successful.  He had to be slow enough to not win a single race, but had to make sure to cross the finish line or he'd be disqualified.  His Yoda Mobile was a success!
He did have to make some tweaks when he got there, his sail was too large and had to be trimmed.  (Hence the rough cuts on the sail.)
All in all it was a great way to spend Richard's birthday.  Congrats boys!!!

{Religious Knot!}

Jonah was awarded his Religious Knot at the Pack meeting this past week.

This is the Cub Master making a really big deal about this award... : )

The firm handshake...

Then the boys played Minute To Win It. They had a blast. It was a really fun pack meeting for the boys.

Trying really hard, but the cookie was just too long. No boy was able to do this trick this night. But they had so much fun trying, and the parents were entertained watching all the boys faces.

Congrats Jonah. I am glad you love scouts, and are working really hard. You are a good boy!!!!!

{Rain Gutter Regatta!}

Jonah participated in something no other Heninger boy has done.  The Rain Gutter Regatta.  It was a hurry up and make it, glue drying on the way to the pack meeting kind of event for us.  We were not given much time to prepare the boat, and we were SUPER busy this week.  Oh well.

 Jonah getting is awards

 Proudly showing off his boat

 His first race.  This is not quite the same hi-tech event that the Pinewood Derby is.  Each boy blows until their boat reaches the end.

Jonah had a blast and even came in 3rd place!  Yippee!  He is thrilled, so we are thrilled.

Court of Honor

 The scouts had a Court of Honor Thursday night and Jacob earned 3 merit badges!  One really cool badge he earned is the Pathfinder.  It is a retro badge brought out this year in celebration of the 100 years of BSA.  At the end of the year it is retired again.  It was fun to earn such a badge!

Congrats Jacob!

{The tradition continues...}

There is a little Heninger family tradition. It started about 40 years ago when Richard WON his Pinewood Derby as a kid.

Richard has passed all his "secrets" down to his boys. Jacob has won and now Jonah has joined the ranks as a Pinewood Champ!

Here's a picture of my boys working hard in the garage....

Test track runs...

The competition...aren't they all so AWESOME looking??? There were 19 cars in this year's race.

maintenance during the derby...

One of the races...Jonah's car is the one on the right, the "Y" car.

The Champ with his gold medal!
Congrats Jonah!!! You worked hard and you did it!!

Blue and Gold Dinner

Jonah had the annual Blue and Gold Dinner for Cub Scouts this week. He is lovin' scouts! (He has awesome den leaders!!) Our pack has a little tradition where the boys bring a cake they have decorated with Dad. Here is what my boys did...

I am pretty confident nobody thinks mom helped out.
Jonah thought it was great, but was sad no one wanted a piece of his cake.

Can you tell what it is? A domino.

Jonah's a Wolf!

Tonight at Pack meeting Jonah was awarded his Wolf badge and 4 arrow points. He's been working hard! He said his favorite thing was cleaning the garbage at the local school. He likes "how it makes the environment better".

He got to make a mask and be "Darth Vader" in his den's skit tonight. He's very proud of his Vader mask. Good job Jonah!!!

Arrows, Knots, Badges, and Pins!

Last night was a really big night for Jacob. He was awarded his Arrow of Light, Weblos badge, Religious knot, and many Weblos pins! He has been working hard and it shows!

1. Jacob has a really cool Weblos leader who brought his Native American "dress" that he wore as a boy for Jacob and his friend Jason (who earned the same awards) to wear as they earned their Arrow of Light.
2. Jacob telling the pack about some things he had to do to earn this award.
3. Hugs from mom!
4. Special ceremony for bridging.
5. Signing the Bridge.
6. Jacob with the special guests from the council with the Order of Light.

Jacob and Jason with the special young guests!

Congrats Jacob. You worked hard and we are so happy for you! We love you VERY much!
